David chang eat a peach a memoir5/13/2023 ![]() ![]() Of course, there’s always a price for success. ![]() We were leaning on one another, just as a family might.” Following his early success, Chang began making TV appearances (he now has his own show on Netflix). “There were no apologies or heartfelt conversations, only the money and the particulars of starting a business,” he writes. During his first years in the restaurant trade, the author was the beneficiary of family money, a fact that he is not ashamed to admit: Chang’s father gave him a generous loan for the financial foundations of his series of restaurants. Chang whisks readers through the steps it takes to be a successful restaurateur, and he makes it clear that there are few ventures harder to pull off. The author, probably best known for his now-global Momofuku culinary brand, is no slouch as a writer, with a style that features a refreshingly defiant attitude and some of the best inessential footnotes since A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius. It would be unfair to label Chang’s book as the Korean American Kitchen Confidential, but the similarities in tone and attitude certainly invoke the late Anthony Bourdain. ![]() The debut memoir from the star chef and restaurateur. ![]()

Pillow Stalk by Diane Vallere5/12/2023 ![]() ![]() ![]() PILLOW STALK is an intricately plotted and well-written book, I really enjoyed the story. Vallere drops an atomic bomb in the last few pages that will make every reader want to read her next book just to witness the fallout. Although we encounter all the usual subjects, there are plenty of surprises to keep us guessing all the way to the end. Vallere s descriptions of the colors, textures and artifacts of the era bring back vivid memories for those of us who actually lived through it. ![]() Review:ĭiane Vallere has woven a multifaceted story disguised as a cozy little mystery that starts out rather predictably but soon draws the reader into Madison s mid century modern fantasy world of fashion, movies, friendship, loyalty, and violence. She started her own detective agency at age ten and has maintained a passion for shoes, clues, and clothes ever since. She writes the Style & Error Mystery Series and the Mad for Mod Mystery series, and has short stories in several anthologies. Diane Vallere is a fashion-industry veteran with a taste for murder. ![]()

Candida by george bernard shaw5/12/2023 ![]() ![]() Shaw is out to attack valiantly the drab sentimentality by the weapon of his thesis and idea. Thus, the story is divested of the romantic glamour that we expect from a romantic fiction or drama. The uniqueness of Shaw’s thinking is shown in the final act where the wife rejects the poet-lover in favour of happy conjugal domesticity and financial security. It is rather stock-in-trade domestic affair that is turned into sheer unconventional stuff when the wife decides to stay back with her husband instead of the overtly sentimental poet. Marchbanks, a poet, is introduced he declares his love for the clergyman’s wife. The conjugal relations of the clergyman (Morell) with his wife form the entire content of the play. The plot presents a parson (Reverend James Mavor Morell), his wife (Candida) and a poet (Eugene Marchbanks) involved in the eternal triangle of love. ![]() ![]() It is the story of eternal triangle that Shaw deals with in an unconventional way. It is a common plot out of which the theme of the play is spun out. The play is often categorized as a comedy, an anti-romantic play and a drama of ideas. Written in 1895, George Bernard Shaw’s play “Candida” comes second in the collection “Plays Pleasant” and is sub-titled “A Mystery”. ![]()
